Visits from Family, part 2

This past weekend we had more visitors! Aunt Denise, Uncle Keith, and cousins Kaetlyn and Kyla came to see us and meet Rebekah. It has been way too long since the last time we got to see Kaetlyn and Kyla! They are so big we hardly recognize them! They were very excited to come meet Rebekah, play with Leah, and take their first plane trip. Kaetlyn was a great little baby sitter and always wanted to hold and play with Rebekah. And Kyla was my special helper in the kitchen, helping me make many of our meals.

The two cousins, holding their newest little cousin.

Aunt Denise and Uncle Keith got some time to hold Rebekah when Kaetlyn would let them!

We are so blessed to have family that love us and come long distances to see us. We are planning our trips to see them again soon!

Visits from Family, part 1

Rebekah had her first visits from family (other than grandparents) when Uncle Joe, Aunt Lindsay, and cousins Riley and Reagan came to visit. We hadn't seen them in about 6 months, so it was fun to see all of the changes. Riley is now a big 5-year old and Reagan (who will be 2 in just a couple of weeks) is now running around and talking a whole lot! And Aunt Lindsay has changed a little bit too. She is expecting a baby in August! We are so excited for them and to find out whether we will have another girl or the first boy on my side of the family. We'll see in August (they are waiting to find out when the baby is born)!! We had a fun weekend just hanging out and letting the cousins get to know each other.

Both of the girls wanted to hold the baby. Reagan was very taken with Rebekah and kept trying to give her a paci. They did a very good job of being careful with the baby!

As much as they enjoyed holding Rebekah, Pippin was really their favorite (as you can see by their faces in the pictures!)

Reagan especially loved Pippin. She liked reading to him and riding him yelling, "Giddy up! Yeehaw!"

Uncle Joe and Aunt Lindsay also got to hold baby Rebekah. Pretty soon this will be them holding their baby #3. Will it be a boy or a girl?!

Valentine's Day

We have done many different things over the years to celebrate Valentine's Day as a couple, but I have to say, celebrating this year as a family was the best. We picked Leah up from school and went to a special family lunch at the Cheesecake Factory. Our picky girl did not eat her cheese pizza (which is usually a safe bet), but she was very happy and sweet during our lunch. Mommy and Daddy shared a bag of assorted truffles and Leah had a strawberry and cream lollipop. Rebekah enjoyed just being with her family. It was the best Valentine's Day yet!

1 Month Old!

It's hard to believe that Rebekah is 1 month old! In some ways it seems like she's been in our family forever. Our adjustment to having a second child has been much easier than I thought it would be. I think that a lot of it is because I'm not working, so I don't have that added stress. I am so grateful that I am able to stay home with my girls. It also helps that Rebekah is pretty easy going. We have always described Leah as being a contented baby. I would describe Rebekah as being a happy baby. She is often smiling and happily cooing. And, Leah's adjustment to having a baby sister has been very easy, too - she hasn't adjusted. This is a bittersweet thing for us. Leah still hasn't really acknowledged Rebekah, which means we haven't had any jealousy issues, or had to keep Leah from poking or messing with the baby. But, it also means they haven't even begun to bond yet. We are confident that they will, and that it will most likely be Rebekah who initiates the relationship between the two. It's just going to be a while.

In this first month of life, we have learned a lot about Rebekah. Besides being happy, she is also very alert. She likes to look around at everything that's going on, and really enjoys looking at the 3 black and white photos that are hung above the couch in our living room. She is a healthy eater and is growing like a weed! We have her one month check up on Friday, so we'll have specific stats then. She is also becoming a really good sleeper. At night, she is only waking up twice and is going right back to sleep after nursing. During the day, she naps well, though it's hard to convince her that she should be napping by herself! She really loves to be held and snuggled! And now, a few pics!

Happy girl
Baby stretches are sooo cute!

A Long Overdue Blog Post

After a very long absence, I think we are back! We have had some technical difficulties with our blog (not letting us upload pictures) that are hopefully over. What a time to have a blog issue! This past month has been full of some major things in the Burgin household. Thanks to Facebook, most of you have been kept up to date with Burgin Business, but I like the blog to keep a record of our life. So, we'll start with the first (and probably biggest thing) to happen this year...

Rebekah Joy Burgin joined our family on January 6, 2013 at 5:47 pm.
She weighed 7 lbs., 14 oz. and was 21 inches long.

Not too happy to be out in this bright, cold world
